About Us

Do you want to know the story behind the SNIPERSCHOICE professional versatile shooting bench?

I am a 2nd generation Machinist and Business Owner. In my leisure time, I have been an avid, lifelong shooter, or as we in the south call it, “varmint hunter.” I began to hunt varmints as a youngin’ with my dad. From the time I can remember, we were groundhog hunting in Virginia almost every weekend. He taught me how to shoot off the hood of a car with homemade sand bags. Looking back, it’s a wonder we hit any of those varmints at all! But we always had a great time together.

These days, in Virginia, there are so many coyotes that groundhog hunting is rare. Since we were both avid hunters, we would talk about “one day” taking other trips together, including possibly going out west to South Dakota to go prairie dog hunting.

Eight years ago, our chats became a reality when my dad told me we were finally getting our chance to go to the badlands and hunt prairie dogs! We have taken this adventure together every year for the past 8 years!

Development of my professional and versatile Shooting Bench.

One of the skills we became very good at was learning how to shoot long distances in high winds at very small targets. To become an “expert” at this type of skill would take work and practice, and although I had the best varmint rifles, wonderful binoculars and range finders, and custom cartridge loaders, I had never found a shooting bench that would work the way I wanted it to work for the kinds of hunting I was good at, and the kinds of hunting at which I wanted to become even better.

After our 1st trip out west to South Dakota, I began an earnest search among hunting circles all over the world to find the “perfect” shooting bench. If I was going to invest the time and money to go out west to become a great prairie dog hunter, than I needed a shooting bench that, added to my expert rifles and other equipment, would make me a top-notch prairie dog hunter!

I looked everywhere I could think to look and still found nothing that contained all the pieces of a perfect shooting bench. I began to think to myself that as a machinist, I had the ability to build EXACTLY the kind of shooting bench I was spending so much time looking for and with that in mind, I set off with my next big goal: building the perfect shooting bench in the next year before my upcoming trip out west.

As far as specs for the bench went, these are the things I knew HAD to be a part of this bench:

• Lightweight without losing rigidity

• A seat separate from the bench and not attached to the shooting platform

• Completely rust resistant

• For comfort, elbow padding

• Ergonomically sound to enable firing from a free recoil position

• Simple in design- any good machinist will tell you that the simplest design is always the best design

• A bench that didn’t have to be put together in the hunting location from pieces that might potentially sustain damage during transport

With just a few weeks to spare before our next trip to South Dakota, we packed up my newly designed bench and headed out. I was amazed at the performance of my hunting with the design of this new versatile and professional shooting bench! I felt as if I had accomplished what I set out to accomplish: my prairie dog hunting gear was complete and I was a happy man!

The Bench Concept Goes Wild

As a happy man who believed I had designed the perfect shooting bench, I, of course, had friends that wanted to borrow the bench for themselves. They would use it and were so impressed with the design of it and how it improved their hunting experience, their next question was always where they could buy one of their own.

With a little bit of hesitancy and regret, I would tell them that there was only one and it wasn’t for sale. I would think about how great it would be to build and produce the benches and sell them; but time and money were commodities I didn’t have enough of to even venture into this type of concept for production. After all, I was content with my bench and the good times it provided for me and my hunting adventures.

Fortunately, hunters are stubborn creatures themselves and the more people that used it, the greater the demand became to have something similar that they could buy for themselves. Sadly, my original design was too costly to mass produce and hunters would not have wanted to pay what it would have cost to produce the shooting bench for what most considered an occasional hobby.
